All cells in your body, including cancer cells, release DNA fragments into the bloodstream when they die. These fragments are called cell-free DNA. The Galleri test analyzes your blood sample for cell-free DNA to determine whether it originates from healthy or cancerous cells.

Cancer cell DNA has specific methylation patterns that serve as cancer indicators. Methylation, a natural process that modifies DNA activity, also provides information about the tissue or organ linked to the cancer signal.
